How to Buy a Helmet

Measure around the biggest part of the head with a dressmaker’s tape measure in centimetres. This will give you your size to buy.

When buying a helmet, I think that they all have the EN1078 safety standard but do check. It will be inside somewhere.

A cheap helmet is fine and just as safe, the more you pay the more fashionable and the more ventilation you get.

Fitting a Helmet

You must look in the mirror to get to know how to adjust a helmetThe straps should not have any twists.

The straps should not have any big loop of extra loose strap.

The front and back straps should meet under each ear. To achieve this adjust the sliding plastic buckle thing up or down. The helmet is held on by the buckle under the chin, and should be comfortable but only allow for two fingers to go between the straps and chin. See if you can get a whole hand in there, if you can it is too loose.Get to know your helmet and adjusting it is easy. It will stay pretty much in place, once set, but do take the time to do learn how to fit it.
